About Indic Handlooms

India weaves more handloom cloth than any country on earth. There are over 35 lakh weavers, hundreds of distinct traditions, and thousands of years of accumulated technique. Yet the language for talking about it is mostly absent — what is the difference between a Kanjivaram and a Banarasi? What does GI-tagged actually mean? Why does a Patola cost what it does?

Indic Handlooms is a small project to fix that. Articles, field guides, weave-by-weave breakdowns, and artisan stories — written for anyone who has ever picked up a saree and wondered.
