Karnataka has been India's largest silk-producing state since the 18th century, when Tipu Sultan imported mulberry sericulture from China. The flagship textile is Mysore Silk Crepe — a soft, light silk with a uniform sheen and a generous zari border, woven at the state-owned Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation in Mysuru.
