Sambalpuri ikat from the Mahanadi basin, Bomkai silk from Ganjam, and the Khandua jagannath textiles of Nuapatna — Odisha is India's ikat heartland.

Odisha's ikat tradition — locally called bandha — uses warp-and-weft pre-dyed yarn to produce some of the country's most intricate motif work, including the famous shankha (conch) and chakra (wheel) symbols associated with Lord Jagannath of Puri. Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Nuapatna are the three main weaving centres.
