Phulkari is technically an embroidery, not a weave — but in Punjab, every woman of a generation past learned it as part of household work. Densely worked silk floss on a coarse khadi or hand-spun cotton base produces a piece called a bagh ("garden") when entirely covered, or a phulkari when motifs are scattered.
